Student absence

If your child is absent from school, it is necessary to telephone the school in the morning on the student absences phone line (07) 3866 4360. A letter of explanation covering the absence is also required when the child resumes school.

Arrival at school

Parents are responsible for their children before the start of the school until the first bell at 8.45 am.

Outside school hours care is run by Helping Hands.  They operate from 6.30 am daily. The centre offers an excellent service to parents and we request all community members respect this role and stay away from designated areas controlled by Helping Hands. Children arriving before 8.30 am should use this service. Children arriving between 8.30 am and 8.45 am must remain in the area under the administration building.

Dress Code

All students are expected to wear the full school uniform daily.  Students must wear the school's formal uniform (not sports uniform) when leaving the school on an excursion.

School hats must be worn at all times outside of the classroom.  All hair that falls over the collar should be tied back to help minimise the spread of head lice.  Sun shirts and swimming caps must be worn for all swimming lessons and activities.

If a child cannot wear the proper school uniform for the day or for a particular activity, parents are requested to inform the school in writing or via email.

Enrolment management

All students who reside within the local catchment area and are eligible for enrolment in the educational program offered by the school have a right to enrolment at the school. The Principal will hold places for students who relocate to within the catchment boundary throughout the school year.

Enrolment of students from outside the local catchment area will be managed to ensure that the total current and forecast enrolments do not exceed the school’s current built capacity and where applicable will ensure there is an even spread of students across year levels or class groupings. Decisions are made in accordance with the Enrolment Management Plan (PDF, 88 KB).

Behaviour management

Our school maintains a belief that promoting a strong school culture, focusing on individuals accepting responsibility for their own behaviours and learning is more beneficial than a reactive behavioural program. Our sense of community and belonging are key drivers in shaping our high expectations and our culture of excellence.

Windsor State School is committed to developing a positive school culture, one in which students, parents and staff feel they are part of a safe and welcoming school community.

Our school culture is based on three values:

  • Respect for self.

  • Respect for others.

  • Respect for the school.

These values are the foundation of our school culture and are embedded within a variety of proactive programs that assist and enable all members of our school community to accept responsibility for their actions.

These programs, coupled with a wide variety of strategies and reward systems developed by individual teachers and their own class, ensure Windsor State School is a safe and supportive environment in which to learn, work or visit.

Full detail of our initiatives is outlined in our School Behaviour Plan (PDF, 440KB).  The appendices (PDF, 2774KB) to the Responsible Behaviour Plan are also outlined for your information.

Sun Protection Policy

Staff at our school realise the need to protect children's skin and educate them about SunSmart behaviour, thus reducing their risk of skin damange and exposure to the sun.  Our sun protection policy (PDF, 182KB) ensures that all children attending our school are protected from the harmful effects of the sun throughout the year.

Homework Policy

Our school believes that homework provides students with opportunities to consolidate their classroom learning and helps create a pattern behaviour for lifelong learning.  Full details of our homework policy (PDF, 675KB) outline these guidelines.
